Pairs
The complete procedure for creating, scheduling and playing the 100-question competition for two.
Updated 1 August 20261.Finding a partner
- Players who do not already have a partner may use the optional KFL Pair & Team Finder.
- Applications close at 23:59 UTC on Sunday 20 September. KFL will try to introduce compatible applicants, but a match is not guaranteed.
- Proposed partners should reply to the introduction email by 18:00 UTC on Wednesday 23 September and confirm whether they agree to play together.
- A Finder introduction does not create the Pair. Both players still need individual KFL accounts, and one of them must create the Pair, invite the other player and schedule the game.
2.Creating a Pair
- One player creates the Pair and becomes captain.
- Invite the partner using the email address attached to their KFL account. The invitation does not go to their email inbox.
- The invited player signs in, opens Teams in the left-hand menu and accepts the invitation there.
- Name the Pair Player X & Player Y. KFL will change other Pair names to that format.
- Captaincy or membership changes require KFL assistance and are not permitted after round 1 begins.
3.Scheduling
- The Pair must schedule its game before Play appears. Only the captain may schedule or reschedule.
- Partners agree privately; no second website approval is required.
- The lobby opens at the scheduled time. The Pair may begin later but never earlier.
- Rescheduling is permitted while enough festival time remains.
4.Lobby and start
- Both players, including the captain, must be signed in and present. A Pair cannot start a round alone.
- The captain presses Start Quiz for round 1. The ten-minute timer begins immediately.
- Both players see the same shared question page.
5.Communication and typist
- Members may play remotely or in the same room. Voice or video communication is recommended; KFL Discord provides voice channels.
- The captain begins as typist. Only the current typist edits the shared answers, which the other player sees in real time.
- The current typist may transfer control using the top-right control. It may be transferred repeatedly during a round.
- Platform chat may be used for spellings. Screen sharing is allowed but normally unnecessary.
- Only the two registered members may contribute answers.
6.Playing the rounds
- Five rounds of 20 general-knowledge questions are played in order, with ten minutes per round.
- Every Pair receives the same questions in the same order.
- The Pair may discuss every question. The typist may submit early; time expiry submits automatically.
- Both players can view the completed round and provisional round score.
7.Review and breaks
- Both players see the review, but the current typist controls challenges and navigation.
- Challenge rejected answers before leaving the round.
- After rounds 1–4, the typist presses Next Round when both players are ready.
- Breaks are untimed, but both players must return before the next round begins.
8.Disconnections and unfinished games
- If the non-typist disconnects, the typist may continue the active round.
- If the typist disconnects, transfer control where possible.
- A new round cannot begin until both players return.
- If the Pair cannot reassemble before closing, unplayed rounds score zero and the completed-round total becomes its official score.
9.Completion and results
- After round 5, review and challenge rejected answers. The typist then presses Submit for Review, even when there are no challenges.
- During the festival, only individual round scores are shown, not the five-round total.
- The maximum score is 100. Results use the official Player X & Player Y name and available flags.
- The top three Pairs are recognized collectively. Equal scores share a position and no tie-breaker is used.
Submit for Review completes the Pair entry. There is no third submission.
